New Diversions and InDELLible!

Hey, I'm back with another update!

First off, I sent Diversions #3 to Ka-Blam! for printing, so it should go up for sale on IndyPlanet some time in October (I hope). I'll be uploading it to DriveThru Comics around the time it goes live on IndyPlanet. I'm very proud of our first theme issue, "Crime Busters!" Brand new tales of Night Spider (art by JW Erwin) and Midnight Stranger (art by Joe Koz), plus an edited/corrected reprinting of Black Rose

And over at InDELLible, I have two  stories, both drawn by my late friend Donnie Page coming out in All New Popular Comics #5, which should go on sale in the next few weeks on Amazon. The "King of the Hill" story from Diversions #1 will be published in full color (inks by Ken McFarlane; lettering and color supplied by Mort Todd) in that issue, and a 12 page Owl story we worked on will debut in the issue. It will be in color as well. (Inks by John Gentil, lettering and colors by Kevin Scott Halter.)

I'll keep you posted on the "when" for both these books as soon as I get concrete info.

Blue Moon Has Risen and Brick Is Still Unbeatable!

I'm back with more comicbook-writing news, my fellow comicbook fiends!

First off, thanks to Will Lill Comics for publishing my short horror story "Doomshadow" in Fun Adventure Comics! #11. Ian Groff knocked it out of the park with his art on this Warren-magazine-inspired short shocker. And a very special thanks to Michael Housel for his most righteous review of that said mag on his bodacious blog Bizarre Chats! Order your copy of FAC #11 here!

Next, the first two issues of Unbeatable Brick are on sale now! Created by Mark F. Davis, Published by John Helmer/Lucky Comics (under the Surprising Comics imprint), written by me, and dynamically drawn by David Johnson Jr. (ish #1) and JW Erwin (ish #2), with the remarkable JW providing covers for both issues. Unbeatable Brick is your favorite new super-hero. You just don't know it yet! If ya don't believe me, just ask Michael Housel (who has the best taste in comics I've ever seen!)--or just read his review on the great Bizarre Chats blog! You can order your own copies of #1 here and #2 here!

The biggest news, though, is...BLUE MOON COMICS IS BACK! Blue Moon Spotlight #1 features a revised version of the ORIGIN of Midnight Stranger, baby! Brand new cover by MS artist supreme Joe Koziarski! It's on sale NOW, and you can get all the info (and a sneak preview) by heading for the Blue Moon Spotlight blog--or you can just take the plunge and order your copy via DriveThruComics right now!

Lest you think that mini-avalanche of comics is all that's going on, check out these sneak-peeks of upcoming Unbeatable Brick and Blue Moon Spotlight wonderment!

TOLD Ya 2018 Is Gonna Rock!

Whoa! I haven't posted yet this year, but it's not because nothing's going on in my little corner of the comicbook universe. Nope, nuh uh, no way! In fact, SO much is going on I actually kinda/sorta forgot to come by here and update. Sorry 'bout that! So, here's a giant/treasury-sized update loaded with awesome art to make up for the delay--and to (hopefully) make ya wanna buy a lotta my comics coming out in the next few months!

As promised, The Creeps magazine ran my "High Moon" in ish #13! Cool, huh? Well, get ready for ish #14 'cause I'll have a story in that one, too! Two issues in a row! "That's a Wrap" will show just how dangerous it is to make a mummy movie. It features stupendous art by Mansyur Daman (who killed it on "High Moon". Hope you "dig" it!

Surprising Comics is about to go to print with not one, not two, but THREE collectors' item classics very shortly!

Depthon of the Deep #1 features three brand new underwater adventures written by legendary Aquaman author Steve Skeates, but somehow I got lucky enough to write a fourth tale for that ish for the incredible art team of Donnie Page (penciler) and Coink Adink (inker). Here's their cover art...

...and the splash page, to boot!

Golden Era #2 allowed me to write a very Golden Age-style story featuring GA character The Green Mask! My buddy David Johnson Jr. supplied the most excellent art!

Surprising Universe #2 will feature the second Unbeatable Brick tale with our hero battling a pair of brotherly baddies known collectively as The Deadly Duo! The action-packed art is by Joseph Graves (penciler) and Donald Willman (inker). They even let me letter it! Here's the splash...

After that titanic two parter (yep, it's continued in ish #3) wraps up, I'm working with the indescribably talented JW Erwin on another multi-part Unbeatable Brick mini-epic...

And if all goes according to plan, Surprising Publisher Mark Davis has given JW and me the green-light to produce a Night Spider mini-series featuring full-length (22 page) stories! Yeah, here's a little sneak-peek just to whet your appetite for the goodness to come late this year...

Over at Will Lill, in just a few weeks "No Man Can Stop...Toombora!" with art by Phil Fried and the late, great Dick Ayers will be re-printed in Fun Adventure Comics! #6...

...but best of all, Ash-Aman, magnificently illustrated, co-plotted, and lettered by the awe-inspiring Russ Martin, will appear in all his cosmic glory in Fun Adventure Comics! #7...here's the cover and a  a few random pages guaranteed to make you go "wow!"

Later this summer, Midnight Stranger, with art by the incomparable Joe Koziarski, natch, will return to Fun Adventure Comics! with the wrap up of his first six-part story arc. Here are a couple teaser pages from Midnight Stranger part four...

Aaaaand, don't forget to order your copy of the a-w-e-s-o-m-e Monty's World Vol. 3 tpb which features the first five issues of  Fun Adventure Comics! (including the first three Midnight Stranger tales, Alex Miracle, Black Rose, and "Snake Eyes"). It's available most everywhere classy books are sold!

But wait, there's more!

Joe Koz and I are hard at work on two more features! One is Guns & Rosa, of course! Check out the splash for the second G&R saga...

Our second new feature is a brand new sci-fi super-hero: Max Miracle! Max is gonna be nothing but F-U-N! Check out these previews...

Whew! I think that's everything (for now)! Next time I go more than a month without an update, somebody slap me, okay?

Now, make sure you visit all my publishers and place your orders for all these cool comics coming your way! We're trying to create a new Groovy Age here, and you don't wanna miss out!

Happy New Year! 2018 Is Gonna Rock!

Happy Holidays, everyone! Yeah, I slipped up and haven't filled you in on what's going on in the comicbook writer part of my life for a while--well, ever take that to mean that nothing's going on. Nossiree, that usually means that I'm busy as a bee! Busy doing what? I'm so glad you asked...

I've written an article on Neal Adams' Batman for Fanscene's 50th Anniversary Celebration of 50 Years of Comic Fandom in Ireland and the UK! Yeah, what's a Yank like yers trooly doing in there? They (Steve Poulacheris and publisher/editor David Hathaway-Price) asked me! Do you think I'd say "no" to getting to be part of a publication with articles by Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, and dozens of titans of fandom? I'll update this post when the e-zine is posted (I understand it'll be available as a pdf as well). It's actually due to be released sometime tomorrow, so I'll updated as quickly as I can. Here's the cover and a teaser image from my article (which, as you can see, starts on page 501)!

Yeah, I know you know I write about comics, but you're here to read about the comics I write, right? Okay, how about a sneak peek of "High Moon" from the soon to be released The Creeps #13?

I have more Unbeatable Brick news! Seems a few exceptional artists have taken a shine to our pliable pal, so I'm in the process of writing three more Unbeatable Brick eight pagers (which will bring us up to a total of six UB stories--and counting). A self-contained smash-em-up, "The Madness of Polarr!" to be illustrated by Josh Holley (here's Josh's take on UB and Polarr)...

And JW Erwin is doing a two-parter featuring giant robots, the evil of the Iron Baron, and his secret evil society, SPEER, and introducing ElecTrish--who's really gonna shock ya (and UB, too)!

Unbeatable Brick is poised to take over the world--and hardly anyone knows it yet! In fact, Surprising Comics publisher Mark Davis is toying with giving UB his own regular mag. Stay tuned!

Meantime, Russ Martin is still producing jaw-dropping art for our upcoming Ash-Aman mini-series planned for next year. Just dig this cover...

Joe Koziarski is knocking me out with his Guns & Rosa pages (for Charlton Neo)...

Aaaand, Will Lill publisher Warren Montgomery is releasing the third Monty's World tpb in February, which will reprint the first FIVE ISSUES of Fun Adventure Comics! That means all the Midnight Stranger stories, Kragor, Alex Miracle, Black Rose, and "Snake Eyes" (plus all the cool stuff from the other FAC! writers and artists) in one gi-normous book! You can pre-order it right now from Amazon, Books-A-Million, Barnes & Noble, and more!

And yep, "King of the Hill" is on the way from Charlton Neo (editor Mort Todd is lettering it now); Joe Graves' two-part Unbeatable Brick tale (featuring the villainy of the Deadly Duo) is coming soon (part one is about ready to be lettered, part two is being laid out), Fantastic Giants by me, Steven Butler, and Mort Todd is still in the works, and I have more Kragor stories that need artists!

There's also a possibility that my "creature of the night" super-hero Night Spider (formerly Black Spider) just might be swinging your way in 2018!

Stay safe--and stay tuned!

A Look at What's Coming...

Oops! Let October slip by without updating, but that's okay 'cause the time was well spent on (you guessed it) writing more comics! Yep, more comics on the way (besides the cool stuff I've mentioned on earlier posts like The Voice from All-New Popular Comics, the new Kragor story in Fun Adventure Comics, and "King of the Hill" from Charlton-Neo)! Big announcement time...!

First off, I've had another story accepted by Rich Sala for an upcoming issue of The Creeps magazine! "High Moon" is a horror story set in the Old West (be ya couldn't tell that from the title)! As soon as I know who's drawing it and what issue it'll appear in, I'll post it here (and on my FB page--you are a member of the Lloyd Smith Writer of Comics FaceBook group, aren't you?)!

Speaking of the Old West, my darlin' Guns & Rosa has the green light from Charlton-Neo with my Midnight Stranger partner Joe Koziarski on the art! Check out this splash page...

Joe's also completed the fourth Midnight Stranger installment (for Will Lill's Fun Adventure Comics, natch)--here's the splash for it!

Speaking of awesome artists named "Joe", Joseph Graves is penciling the second Unbeatable Brick installment for Surprising Universe! Can you dig this action-packed splash?

Another creative partner of mine (and former Unbeatable Brick illustrator), David Johnson Jr. is drawing a brand new Golden Age Green Mask story I wrote for Golden Era Comics...

Ian Groff, who drew the new Kragor mini-epic has also completed the art for a scary short I've written called "Doomshadow"...

Aaaaand, for this post's grand finale, I've just got to show off the INCREDIBLE art coming from the hands of artist Russ Martin! Not only has he drawn (and colored!) this fantastic Ash-Aman cover...

--but he's also finished penciling the third Ash-Aman installment (and it's a heartbreaker)! Just plant your peepers on this splash!

And that's not all, but it's enough for now. Things aren't slowing down writing-wise, and I am so, so glad! I love writing comics, and I hope you'll support all the publishers who are letting me follow my dream! See ya next time!
